12’ Rowboat/Tender
This recently completed 12′ rowboat was launched for the first time in November ’24. She was designed to be a good all around rowboat with an eye towards being a tender for a cruising boat. Built traditionally with Northern White Cedar planking over White Oak frames and backbone; fastened with Silicon Bronze and Copper rivets. Her rails and transom are Sapele(African Mahogany). The transom is finished bright with Le Tonkinois varnish, and the rest of the surfaces are coated with Kirby semi-gloss marine paint for a durable and good looking finish. Some of the features that make this boat well suited to being a tender are her generous beam and shallow deadrise amidships which helps provide good initial stability for getting in and out of the boat. Voluminous forward sections make her easy to step in and out of as you come and go from shore, and a little bit of rocker in the keel helps with maneuverability in tight quarters. Her tucked up transom and fine entry give nice performance under oars. She gets up to speed quickly, tracks nicely, and carries her momentum well. Having two rowing stations allows the rower to trim the boat according to the cargo they’re carrying; capacity for this boat is approximately 3-4 adults. All of these features add up to a rowboat that would be just as well suited to exploring the coast on your cruising boat as it would be tied up to a pulley line or dock ready for adventures and peaceful evening rows.
