About
Cyrus was born and raised on and amongst the islands of Penobscot Bay, Maine fostering an early love for all things boats and the ocean. From a young age he was lobstering with his father, exploring the coastline of his island home, and immersed in a life revolving around nature’s rhythms. That love of time on the water led him to continue lobstering for much of his teen and early adult life until the call to build and design wooden boats became too loud to ignore. His involvement in the restoration of a 1934 Starling Burgess designed cutter was a catalyst for that shift; which led him to Washington state to study at the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding in order to round out his knowledge on the topic and get a look at the West Coast wooden boat scene. Now located in Mid-Coast Maine Cyrus’ focus is on the construction and design of custom wooden boats with an emphasis on rowboats.
